Secondary glazing as the name implies is a secondary form of window that is fitted, on the inside, immediately behind a primary window.
Secondary glazing is a suitable product for use in situations where increased thermal insulation is required e.g. in listed or historical buildings or conservation areas where the primary windows are single glazed. Secondary glazing is also specified in situations where noise reduction is necessary and desirable e.g. in hospitals.
However, the system is suitable for installation in new build and refurbishment projects, in domestic homes and commercial properties including schools, colleges, hospitals, universities, hotels and commercial buildings i.e. offices.
We have a comprehensive range of styles to suit just about every application, including Horizontal Sliders, Hinged Units, Fixed and Lift-Out Units, Vertical Sliders as well as Balanced Vertical Sliders and Tilt-in Balanced Vertical Sliders. We can supply frames in white, black or brown as standard and can accommodate any RAL colour, upon request, to suit individual requirements.
Our fully assembled secondary glazing is comprised of an aluminium outer frame joined to a seasoned hardwood surround which allows for a neat, unobtrusive installation even in the most difficult situations.
Homeowners have a choice of a wide range of glass types such as clear, patterned, toughened, laminated and acoustic. Varying degrees of improved thermal insulation can be achieved by the use of Low E glass. The harmful effects of ultra violet radiation can also be reduced whilst letting in solar heat. In addition specialist films can be adhered to the glass to further increase thermal insulation whilst adding to the security of the product and your premises.
In providing a second barrier to would-be intruders, secondary glazing adds to the security of your property particularly where safety glass and films are used.
All windows and doors, whatever the frame material, will require a minimal amount of maintenance if only to clean the surfaces of everyday dust and grime.
All moving parts such as handles and hinges should be checked annually and lubricated appropriately, where necessary. All aluminium and pvc-u profiles should be washed down using a mild detergent in water at three monthly intervals. Abrasive or corrosive cleaners and materials must not be used.
